Paintings 2003 - 2005

From 2003 Jariwala continues her interests in Rennaisance and Hindu iconography. This section shows two series of works - Chakra and Navarasa.

The Chakra Series refers to the ancient Hindu Yogic philosophy, which states that there are seven points that run down the central column of the body. Each part of the body is represented by a colour from the rainbow, from the base chakra which is red to the crown chakra which is violet.

The Navarasa Series focus on the facial expressions of the nine moods in Indian classical dance such as Bharat Natyam and Kathakali. Nava means nine and Rasa is often translated as mood, emotion or expression. Each mood has a specific colour reference, for example, white is peace and happiness is orange.

Jariwala finds personal commonalities between deities of Hindu and Christian faith. She is particularly inspired by symbolism whether pictorial, numerical as well how colour has significant spiritual meaning.
